This city forms the populated core of the Conejo Valley (including Thousand Oaks proper, Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, and Oak Park).

Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park were both parts of the Janss Investment Company project: a master planned city during the 50's. Everything standing here was meticulously planned.

Just as the surrounding areas this city has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate, that is pretty desirable! You will experience hot, dry, and sunny summers and mild winters with moderate rainfall. The climate makes the zone pretty green and fertile: green grass and numerous western valley oaks.

This city is served by the US Route 101 known as the Ventura Freeway and State Route 23. Thousand Oaks is also served by Thousand Oaks Transit (TOT) that offers bus and shuttle service. The regional transportation center provides bus and shuttle lines to Los Angeles, Oxnard, Ventura, Moorpark, Simi Valley, and Santa Barbara.

The fauna in Thousand Oaks is very vast and it includes lots of rabbits ("conejo" is Spanish for rabbit), mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, gray foxes, and mule deer. You can also find skunks, raccoons, opossums, and squirrels.

Once you are here you might want to visit the Conejo Valley Botanical Garden, Dawn's Peak (the highest point in Thousand Oak), and the American Radio Archive. The surrounding area offers a plethora of outdoor activities, including hiking, mountain and road biking, and even swimming and surfing in the Pacific Ocean just across the Santa Monica Mountains (although don't be fooled by the "mountain" part in the name- they are really just high hills mostly under 3,000 ft. high).
