Did you know that this area was originally named Zelzah and after that North Los Angeles? Because of confusion, the city’s name was changed to Northridge.

The area can trace its story back to the time of Spanish explorers. The territory was sold by the Mexican governor to Eulogio de Celis and has always been the home of notable people.

The Latin community here in Northridge is quite big, they are part of the 26.1% of the total population. In fact "Día de los muetos" (Day of the dead, that is not the same as a Latin version of Halloween) is a huge celebration here.

The area now called Northridge was previously inhabited by the Native American Gabrielino people. We are talking about 2,000 years ago. Yes! This place is old.

The 1994 Northridge earthquake has this name because you can guess where the epicenter was. But this was just a bad calculation because the epicenter was actually in Reseda. The fact remains that this was one of the strongest ground motions ever recorded in North America.

You can visit the Recreation Center, which has an indoor gymnasium that can also be used as an auditorium. The park also has some BBQ pits, a baseball diamond, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, a children's play area, a community room, picnic tables, and a soccer field and tennis courts. This is a nice place to spend some quality time with your family!

Another fun place to visit while in Northridge is O'Melveny Park, located in the Santa Susana Mountains, in the Granada Hills community of the northern San Fernando Valley. O'Melveny Park is the 2nd largest public park in Los Angeles County (after Griffith Park). The 672-acre park offers numerous trails and fire roads for hiking, running, and mountain biking. It also has picnic tables and grassy areas for kids to play.
