Activities available in Reno include gaming, family entertainment, outdoor activities, festivals, museums, fantastic cuisine, shows for everyone, art, and culture. Reno is the place where the historic Johnson-Jeffries fight happened, and where Marylin Monroe and Clark Gable fell in love for the cameras while shooting "The Misfits." It's difficult to walk the streets of Reno without seeing the history in this dynamic city.
Reno's transit system is operated by the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County. The busiest route, the #1 bus, was recently replaced with two new services. Other routes to know about are the #11, which runs between downtown Reno and downtown Sparks, and the free, yellow Sierra Spirit circulator bus, which connects various downtown destinations. Either way, our recommendation when plan a visit, is to rent a car or to pay for taxi rides- Reno’s taxis are plentiful, efficient, and comfortable.
When planning to visit Reno, here are some of our recommendations:
Things to do in Reno:No visit to Reno would be complete without an overview of the various casinos in the city. In addition to gambling, these properties provide a variety of dining and entertainment opportunities and should not be overlooked.
You can enjoy the Truckee Riverwalk to enjoy a day with vibrant and spectacular nature and the best entertainment options. Reno was established next to the Truckee River. Once the bridge was built, the area became very popular for the gaming and nightlife options that were there, surrounding the water. As this is the very place where Reno was created, it is why people from the Riverwalk district are so proud of this part of the city. This is also why if you are in Reno, you can't miss the Raymond I. Smith Truckee River Walk.
For more nature, Idlewild Park has Nevada’s only rose garden that’s been certified by the American Rose Society. The peak season for the Rose Garden’s 200 varieties of roses usually lasts from June until September.
Car enthusiasts won’t be able to pass up visiting the National Automobile Museum with its exhibits of more than 200 vintage cars from the 1890s to the present. Many of the cars are staged with historical sets and you can even wear period clothing for unique photo opportunities. Autoweek magazine listed it as one of America’s Greatest Automobile Museums.
Although relatively new (opened to the public in 2013), the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum has quickly grown into a regional center for learning about science and art. The Museum focuses on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) education. Although originally a children’s museum, it has expanded beyond its initial focus on young children and caters to the entire family.
