There are several industries in Northbrook that provide many of the families that live here their incomes. Here you can find a couple of laboratories and some perfume factories.

Although not known to many people outside the area Northbrook has produced a number of famous people, notably several professional and Olympic athletes/coaches and people in the entertainment industry, most notably film directory/screenwriter John Hughes (famous for the Home Alone franchise, National Lampoon’s Vacation, Pretty in Pink, and many others). In fact, several scenes from his movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off were shot at the local high school (where Hughes had gone to school).

Things to do in Northbrook:

Visit the River Trail Nature Center. Its very natural mission is to preserve and tell the story behind every plant and animal that lives in this urban environment that was once very green. You will get a very close look at the native animals.

There is also a discovery area for little kids where they will enjoy fun and reveling experiences that can help them learn a lot. They can climb into an eagle's nest, discover a fox den, and use puppets to learn about other animals.

If you are planning a family trip, go to the Nickel City Family Center, a place to have lots of fun while playing tons of games, winning prizes, and eating a delicious and very American meal. The place received its name because every single game and video game operates with nickels, so you can forget the tokens. Once you win tons of tickets for your adventures, you can change them for very nice prizes that will be fun for every family member.
