Located in the Midwest of the United States and like New York, Chicago has a skyline to remember.
This city has 4 districts: Downtown, the North Side, the South Side, and the West Side. The most visited part is the central area, which by the way is pretty large. Here you can find popular neighborhoods like Downtown, River North, Streeterville, Old Town, the South Loop, and Greek Town. If you want to be delighted by the magnitude of the skyscrapers, you must visit this zone.
Chicago's weather can get pretty cold in the winter and hot in the summer- it can be cooler and hotter than other neighbor cities. One thing you surely won't escape from is the wind; that's how this place got its nickname and now we all now it as "the windy city." However, some legends assure that this nickname might come from other reasons that include de World Fair, politics, and Chicago's allegedly rivalry with Cincinnati.
Did you know that Chicago is America's third most prolific movie industry? Of course, after Los Angeles and New York. "The Untouchables" by Brian De Palma, "High Fidelity" by Stephen Frears, and "Batman Begins" by Christopher Nolan are just a few of the movies that took place here. Yes! Chicago was used as Gotham City. Cool right?
Downtown Chicago is a very walkable place because of its wide sidewalks and minimal congestion. If you are planning to walk but you want to avoid the weather consequences, then you can use the Chicago Pedway System, a group of passages that connect the Downtown buildings. Talk about pampering the pedestrians.
If you don't want to walk, then the best way to see the city is by using the public transit: The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA). Its cheap and efficient (most of the time). RTA is so cool that it has a partnership with Google Maps, which can provide routes with public transit. You can even plan you trips with RTA online.
If you are into green then you need to check this place in your list. The Nature Boardwalk at Lincoln Park Zoo represents a new model for sustainability and urban conservation. The picturesque, yet unsustainable urban pond, left over from the 19th century was transformed into an ecological habitat teaming with life. The boardwalk goes around the pond, passing through several educational zones that provide information about the different habitats and the plants and animals found within them. A pavilion provides shelter for open-air programs, classes, and other events.
If you like fun and sun you will absolutely love the "urban" beach at the Chicago's Oak Street Beach. The absolutely amazing thing about this place is that is actually a man-made beach.
While you walk along Chicago’s upscale Magnificent Mile towards the north, not far from the famous Chicago Water Tower, you will spot another standout historic building among the modern architecture. The Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago is located directly across Michigan Avenue from the John Hancock Center. This magnificent construction will blow your mind- it is another building that you cannot miss, even from a distance. The super tall (1,128 ft. / 343.7 m.), 100-story, John Hancock Center is one of Chicago’s iconic skyscrapers.
If you want to be blown away, then you must check this city out!
