The name "Bronx" originated with Jonas Bronck, who established the first settlement in the area. This place received many immigrant groups from all over Europe and the Caribbean region; this transformed this place into an urban community with a very rich mixture of people. This cultural explosion had to do with the birth of local hip-hop and particular sounds like "merengue hip-hop," that is a very tropical beat combined with street style.

This popular place that appears in TV shows, movies and even songs (at least the ones from J.Lo) was not always called "The Bronx." In fact, the names that preceded the actual one where a bit complicated. The area was known as “Rananchqua” by some Native Americans and “Keskeskeck” by others.

A lot of people think that spicy salsa moves and rhythms came from Puerto Rico, but some legends affirm that salsa was born in this very hot spot of America. A little Latin corner that was vibrating with musical tones. But this place was not always known for its party soul- Edgar Allan Poe used to call this place his home and you can still visit his cottage.

There is a cool and spooky place in The Bronx that you can visit if you are into these type of activities. Woodlawn Cemetery is perhaps the final resting place of more famous people than any other place in the world.  Among the most notable names are: Rowland H. Macy (founder of Macy’s Department stores), James Cash Penney (founder of, you guessed it, JC Penney), legendary Latin artist Celia Cruz, FW Woolworth of Woolworth Department Store fame, composer Irving Berlin, and Jazz musicians such as Duke Ellington and Miles Davis.

If you like green spaces and flowers, then we recommend you to visit the New York Botanical Garden that is located in this borough. This is the perfect spot to escape from the chaos of the metropolis. You will be delighted by the 50 gardens and collections. There is a pond with lily pads that you and your camera’s can't miss.

Then there is another very popular place: the Bronx Zoo. This is a place that dedicates its days to saving the wildlife. With 265 acres of wildlife habitats and attractions, it is difficult to see the entire zoo in one day. If you are visiting shortly then they will recommend you to take a tour to enjoy the place as much as you can. Tigers, gorillas, reptiles, and forests. It could not be better!

If you are looking to walk or bike around and burn some calories while you enjoy the view, you can always rent a bicycle to enjoy the famous Bronx bike tour. This is a nice way to get to know the city with locals and stop in all the important spots. You will be enjoying, you will be learning, and you will be sweating!
