This place is very famous for being the site where the Battle of Trenton took place. If you are into history or if you just simply remember from school, this battle was George Washington's first military victory. On December 26, 1776, Washington and his army, after crossing the icy Delaware River to Trenton on Christmas Eve, defeated the Hessian troops garrisoned there.
But that is part of the past now, there are tons of places to enjoy arts and culture here. For example, you can visit the New Jersey State Museum that overlooks the Delaware River. The Museum's main collection of specimens, artifacts, and objects dating back to items collected in the early 19th century. The Museum also includes a 140-seat planetarium and a 384-seat auditorium.
For a little more history, you can visit the Trenton War Memorial, a building that was built in 1930 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It was designed by Louis S. Kaplan. There is also the Trenton Battle Monument, a massive column-type structure in the Battle Monument section. It commemorates the Battle of Trenton on December 26, 1776, as an enormous victory during the American Revolutionary War.
If you are a reader, you will be delighted with one visit to the New Jersey State Library, based in Trenton. The State Library is also responsible to assist in the provision of library and information services to all New Jersey residents.
You can also take your camera to the Old Barracks Museum, a touchstone for colonial and revolutionary history in New Jersey. The museum brings the world of colonial America to life through interpretive programs, exhibits, and preservation so that visitors can appreciate New Jersey’s history.
For a little bit more art, you can go to the Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie Mansion. Ellarslie is an Italian villa that was built for Henry McCall Sr. of Philadelphia as a summer residence in 1848.
