Kansas City, often shortened as KC, is the largest city in the State of Missouri. Founded in the 1830s, it was initially a Missouri River port due to its confluence with the Kansas River.
Since Kansas City is located in the Midwest, the city lies in the northern periphery of the humid subtropical zone, which is great for outdoor activities and makes it a nice spot for tourists most of the times.
The Downtown area includes many streets, in which the 39th Street District stands out for being known as Restaurant Row. It features one of the largest selections of independent restaurants and boutique shops. This makes it a bohemian culture area and the center of literary and visual arts.
Another interesting area, called Crown Center, has tons of shopping and entertainment complexes. Its connection to Union Station by covered walkways has given fame to this place.
Union Station is a 100-year-old historic building that brings together the best of culture, education, and entertainment through traveling national exhibits or 3D movies on the Extreme Screen. You can simply go and enjoy a nice cup of coffee, but the guarantee is that you will find something fun to do for each member of the family. Union Station has an attraction called Science City, which is the best place for brilliant and curious young minds to go where they can explore, create, and experiment the goods of science and learning while having fun in several attractions.
If you call yourself passionate for arts, you can’t miss the 345,000 pieces of art in the collection of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. This collection exhibits over 5,000 years of humanity in a quiet, relaxing and inspirational tour. Needless to say, the outside appearance of the building is elegant and superb.
As for what arts concern, there is an interesting event in Kansas City called First Friday in which thousands of people reunite the first Friday of each month to see the art galleries that have their “open houses.” With more than 60 galleries in the district area, you will always find a place to see live music, indie movies and street performers.
A beautiful place to visit is the Country Club Plaza, also known as simply “The Plaza.” It is a stunning outdoor shopping and entertainment district, surrounded by apartments, condominiums and high buildings. You can choose from one of the 25 restaurants for a beautiful night out and enjoying of the Spanish architecture and iconic fountains. Definitely, the most romantic place to go for a date.
If you are fan of sports, especially baseball, you can bring your entire family and catch a game at the K, one of the most gorgeous baseball stadiums of the United States, home to the Kansas City Royals.
