Local Business Reviews and Happenings
Did you know that Fremont is the home to the largest concentration of Afghan Americans in all of the U.S.? In fact, this location is part of the Kite Runner novel and movie. There is also a very notable population of Chinese, Indians, and Filipinos.
Fremont, like most of California's cities, has a mission to explore and enjoy a bit of history. Here you will find the Mission San Jose that is also a popular district in the city. Nestled at the base of Fremont's rolling hills is the Mission San Jose that is actually one of the oldest in the state. You can enjoy daily masses in the church that is here and also discover history through their tours.
Things to do in Fremont:
Visit the Niles Canyon Railway a place that is described as a museum where exhibits come to life. This museum wants to educate people while they enjoy and have a great time. The main focus: America’s Western railroads and their importance in America's history.
The Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum is an excellent resource for exploring filmmaking during the silent era (before "talkies," as later movies with sound were called). More than just a museum, they have exhibits that include posters, books, photographs, and other memorabilia of the period. Besides frequently screening silent movies, the theater is also available for private events. The museum is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays.
Visit the Ardenwood Historic Farm, a farm that was originally owned by the George & Clara Patterson family from the 1850s. All the staff members and guides are dressed in Victorian era clothing and they will guide you through a complete farming experience, just like it was in the good old days.
For a bit more nature, you can go to the Coyote Hills Regional Park. This is the perfect place to enjoy activities such as bicycling, walking, bird watching, jogging, nature exploration, and picnicking- all surrounded by an impressive view. Mission Peak Regional Preserve offers even more activities for outdoor types, including a hike to Mission Peak. It also includes lots of trails to other areas in the park.
