Dallas is not your typical Texan stereotype, so don't expect to feel part of a western movie. The city has a great deal to offer: an immense set of attractions, food, and people- there is a lot to do in one of the largest cities in America. With that in mind, you should enjoy visiting Dallas for all the same reasons why others choose to live there.

Dallas is part of the American South, which is why the climate here is subtropical with mild winters and very hot summers. So if you are into this cozy and summery weather, this is the place to be. Dallas can be also very dry because of its closeness to the Mojave Desert.

The easiest (and the most reliable) way to move around once in Dallas is by using a car. You'll find a gas station on every corner (most sell both regular unleaded and diesel fuel). The only bad thing is that highways and many major arterial roads can jam during rush hours (Monday through Friday). Just avoid driving on the regular office schedule (during the time people go to work and leave the office).

Public transportation:

The Dallas Area Rapid Transit or DART has an extensive system of buses and a large light rail network with four different lines. Culture in Texas encourages the use of cars to move around, this is why locals won't help you to move around by using the public transportation system. They know very little about it!

Things to do in Dallas:

Once you are here, you have to visit one of their city's landmarks: the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. This bridge crosses the Trinity River and was designed by the very famous Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava.

Visit the Pioneer Plaza that is just in front of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. This place commemorates Dallas settlers and their first arrival to this city, this is why you will only find native plants and trees here and a massive bronze cattle sculpture created by Robert Summers.

To have fun with nature you must visit the Dallas Zoo and Aquarium. You might not know this, but the Dallas Zoo began in 1888 with just two deer and two mountain lions in City Park. Can you believe that? Now they have more than 2,000 animals and they moved to Fair Park.

For a little bit of shopping, you can go to the NorthPark Center to use your credit card until it explodes! They say that you will experience the art of shopping here, and we believe them. You will find great stores, the traditional brands and of course, tons of art pieces scattered all over to delight you while you are in a shopping frenzy.

Other fun activities:

- Sixth Floor Museum: an entire place dedicated to the story behind the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Located in the exact building from which Lee Harvey Oswald fired the shots.
- Dallas World Aquarium: more than just an aquarium, this unique zoo tour starts at the canopy level of a rainforest and winds its way down past many types of animals and into the aquarium below.
- Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens
- Dallas Museum of Art: a large museum that offers great works of art from eastern and western cultures, from all ages.
