Snow Capped Mountains in Arctic Valley (Anchorage, AK)
Primary tabs
I visited Artic Valley with its beautiful snowcapped mountains.
This is Glenn Highway (part of Alaska Route 1).
After you get out of Anchorage, you can see the sign to Artic Valley on the right.
Arctic Valley has many trails, but little traffic, so visitors and especially hikers often feel that they have the entire area to themselves. Local residents know it as a community ski hill. After the chairlift stops running in spring, Artic Valley remains a popular spot for other types of outdoor recreation. It is also a prime location for picking various types of berries in late summer- blueberries, crowberries, and cranberries blanket the fields from August.
In the nearby peaks, visitors may catch a glimpse of a Cold War relic- the mountains on the edge of Fort Richardson were once the location of a military missile site.
