It snowed in summer and it was very much like Alaska!
Unless it’s Alaska, snow would hardly have happened in summer.
If you travel to Alaska, come here to Hatcher Pass.
There are cute cabins at the foot of the snowy mountain. This is Hatcher Pass Lodge.
Hatcher Pass is a mountain pass (elev. 3,886 ft. /1,148 m.) through the southwest part of the Talkeetna Mountains and was named after Robert Hatcher (a prospector and miner). Most of the land around the pass is public and is popular for many day trip activities, including hiking, climbing, gold-mining, mountain biking, hunting, berry-picking, skiing, sledding, white-water kayaking, and snowmobile riding.
Hatcher Pass Road is a well-paved biking trail up to the 17th mile where it changes to gravel. Part of the road goes through Independence Mine State Historic Park, which covers 271 acres (1.10 sq. km.) and contains several well preserved mine buildings and a mining museum that offers underground mine tours.
Hatcher Pass Lodge in Independence Valley offers food and lodging. Located above the tree line at 3,000 feet (914 m.) in the Talkeetna Mountains, the Lodge offers a wide variety of outdoor activities. Visitors can hike to nearby lakes and high tundra meadows as well as to the remains of the mill at Independence Mine.
Hatcher Pass Lodge’s restaurant is open to visitors for lunch and dinner (notable menu items include homemade soups, smoked halibut, and fondue); overnight guests also have access to a continental breakfast with pancakes and omelets. The bar offers a unique selection of gourmet beers, wine, and specialty drinks such as Hot Buttered Rum and Hatcher Pass Steamer.
