These are pictures of the 2016 NYO (Native Youth Olympic) Games Alaska held in the UAA stadium. There was live broadcasting with many press members, and many interesting people were cheering participants.  

Open to Alaska’s students from 7th through 12th grades, the Native Youth Olympic Games provide insight into Alaska’s rich cultural heritage and promotes a healthy lifestyle and good sportsmanship among participants.

For several hundred years, Alaska’s Native peoples have used games to practice their survival and hunting skills. These games helped contestants develop strength, endurance, and control over their bodies. Thousands of Alaska’s youths continue the tradition today.
