I really have to be honest with you... Although I recognize that in Venezuela there are massive talents when it comes to actors and actresses, I was really skeptical when I first heard about the movie "Papita, Maní, Tostón" in every national movie theater.

But I have to admit: I was so wrong! I spent the whole movie laughing almost to the point of crying! I really enjoyed the crazy things developing in this humorous Venezuelan-style love story.

Which movie is this one? If you haven't seen it yet, rent it, for it is a 100% guaranteed good time what you will have watching it.

Papita, Maní, Tostón's plot

Can rivals to death get to find love between them? That's the question raising with Papita, Mani, Tostón's plot. First of all, why the name? Because those are exactly the 3 elements you find the most in any Venezuelan baseball game for eating (French fries, peanuts and thin fried-crunchy green platains). Of course, there are other snacks, but these 3 are the most common.

It is known from many years ago the long-lasting rivalry between 2 Venezuelan baseball teams, which are Leones del Caracas and Navegantes del Magallanes. This rivalry has been so intense, that there are even songs about it, and people who even defend the players to death in both sides, resulting in fights after each match among them. This sportive "animosity" has become a part of Venezuela's culture, like a signature.

What if, then, a man from one team fells in love from a woman who supports the rival team? Here's the problem that Andrés (Jean-Pierre Agostini) had to face when she got heavily crushed (in love) with Julissa (Juliette Pardau). Andrés and his family are hardcore fans of Leones del Caracas, while Julissa is not only a Fan of Navegantes del Magallanes, but she is also the daughter of an important executive of that team.

But love has nothing to do with the ones that become its preys. So, both Julissa and Andrés have to pretend that each of them support the other's team in order to keep seeing each other. This situation unleashes very hilarious moments all along the movie, with a very touching ending. (I won´t tell you how it ends, look for it!). Jajajaja.

Papita, maní, Tostón in numbers

Some good details that are important to know about this funny love story is that with an audience of more than 1.350.000 viewers, it became the most seen Venezuelan movie in the history of Venezuela's films, surpassing other epic movies that did their thing in their time. And it was also the most seen movie ever seen in all the national territory, only below 1997's Titanic, which still keeps the 1st place.

Apart from all the humor that you will find in the movie, there is a very beautiful message implicite, about understanding and comprehension, that we are all the same, and differences should never lead us to despise other people. Indeed, Papita, Maní, Tostón is a movie you will enjoy for sure!

Do you think that message is relevant for our times? What's your opinion on that matter? I'd love to know your thoughts on it!

In advance, Have a great day wink

I am a movie buff and I LOVED this movie. Why? Because I think it was a breath of fresh air for Venezuelan cinema, that tends to be very violent and display very hardcore and depressing subjects (kidnaps, slums, murders, rapes, etc)

This was a romantic comedy with a very Venezuelan twist and it shows our culture and our reality without being too raw.
